I spent more than a decade in the US military. Throughout my military career I made pieces commemorating individual achievements, retirements, and group accomplishments.
Air National Guard Fire Protection Logo
The fire protection badge is given only to the members actively serving as firefighters. It is surrendered upon reassignment or resignation. Higher ranking FP members will have more bugles. The ANG on the lower rocker indicates the Air National Guard instead of the more traditional USAF (United States Air Force). You can find out more here.

Civil Engineering Badge
This is the United States Air Force Civil Engineering Badge, brought to life with color. This badge has two design elements—a gear and a draftsman’s compass—each employed because of their close association with engineering and construction, the two main tasks performed by Airmen in these specialties. As a primary component of machinery, the gear embodies the application of scientific maxims in technology to achieve pragmatic goals. The gear has an even more profound meaning for USAF engineers, it is an emblem of multiple constructed elements that interact and mesh—in this case, trained Airmen and the weapon systems they wield. The compass, of course, is invaluable in design and construction, and when combined with the gear it is the perfect picture of the broad range of diversities within this Career Field working in tandem to achieve mission objectives.

122nd Fighter Wing
122nd Fighter Wing "Blacksnakes" in Fort Wayne Indiana were formed from the 358th Fighter Group on 24 May 1946. Soon after, they left the Army and became a part of the newly formed Air Force on July 26, 1947, though they remained part of the Indiana National Guard. Located at historic Baer Field (now FWIAP) their current mission is piloting the A-10 Thunderbolt II "Warthog" airframes.

Big Red 1
This was designed by me and crafted by one of my first students.
The Big Red 1 is the longest continually serving unit of the US Army. This emblem was a retirement gift to a man who served with them after WW2.
I love this design because it really gave me a lot of room to build on a clear and simple message: I was able to experiment with break points, settling on a cross pattern that really exemplifies the strength of these officers; I got to use a brass patina rather than black because the brass just fit so much better with the military motif; and I was able to finish the piece with a dog-tag as a chain, incorporating an element of the actual experience into the art.
